standard washing machines carry two water hose, one for hot, the other for cold water, these rubber hoses under normal conditions last a long time, the brass ends that screws on to the water valve on the washing machine and on the pipe that supply the water will sometimes get rusty, this is usually a good time change them if you see any kind of corrosion.

however if you really want to feel safe and not worry about a hose breaking and flooding your house especially when you are not home, one way is to always turn off the supply hose after each wash, unfortunately most people will not remember to do this, another thing to do is to get stainless steel hose, they will not rust regardless of how much humidity is in the laundry room, they are quite expensive compared to the rubber hose but they are guranteed for many years depending on your supplier which are different from state to state.
