if your dryer run and take a long time to dry or dont dry at all,the first place to check is the exhaust where it vent outside,over a period of years lint will get stuck to the walls of the exhaust vent and restrict the free flow of hot air going out,the longer the distance from the dryer to the outside the more it is likely to have a blockage.Apart from the normal accumulation of lint the most common things i see each year is--when it's getting cold birds always make their nest to get the warm air from the dryer--and when it snows, if the vent is close to the ground it will get covered --so if your dryer is running and not heating properly the first thing you should do before you call for service is walk around the house to where the vent comes out put your hand there to feel if any air is coming out, if a strong force of air is coming out but it is cold, you have another problem,see tip # 2 coming soon.
